Simply clip the halyard to the bosuns chair and drop into the water near the MOB. Lock the halyard with the bosuns chair seat a foot below the water. The MOB can step onto the flat part of the bosuns chair and stand up and hold onto the halyard. The halyard can be raised lifting the MOB to the rail. Pros; DIY again You can make a simple bosuns chair with a plank of wood and some line. This you can very simply drop into the water and winch the victim aboard. I have seen this method referred to as the trapeze method of recovery. If you have a conscious MOB then this may be the easiest.

The mission is fishing aboard Hatteras’ 54 Convertible. By Scott Shane posted Oct 3rd, at 4: Traveling from tournament to tournament on million-dollar-plus sportfishing yachts, the members of this cult incessantly clean and maintain their boats, sleep sporadically, cater to the whims of sometimes demanding owners, look out for one another and fish hard. I was fortunate enough to sample the lifestyle when Hatteras Yachts invited me aboard its company boat, Hatterascal, crewed by the husband-and-wife team of Captain Terry and Bonnie Stansel, along with mate Greg Uff.
While aboard, I learned that this well-balanced hull is fit for fishing and onboard comfort.
Kitty Hawk is a town in Dare County, North Carolina, and is a part of what is known as North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The population was 3, at the Census. It was established in the early 18th century as Chickahawk.
August 13, Funny you mentioned “Spade Fishing”. I just returned from my family cruise vacation and let me tell you the fishing trip sponsored by the ship was the highlight of my trip. We made a port visit to the Florida Keys and went fishing for yellow fin, grouper and whatever else would bite. After the chum was put in the water, hundreds of spade fish were on the scene and I mean an arms length from the boat.
I even touch a few of their long fins that were out of the water. I asked the boat captain if he had any bait to tangle with the spades and he told me that no one cares for the spade fish in the keys because their nuisance fish. I could not believe he said that but I guess every area has it’s own opinion. I felt like an animal in a cage, watching prey pass almost within striking distance. If I had known the spades were in such abundance, I would have taken a can of clams with me to get that spade pullage.
I did however catch a few yellow fin but they weren’t tuna. I can’t remember the name but they were yellow fin something. I caught a big ole grouper and a barracuda that had teeth that were probably at least a half an inch long. So for the past week, three hours on the water was my highlight.

Hatteras Island Fishing Reports
Fort Lauderdale PacBlue said: The 9″ Bennett came from the small production boat needs. Just make sure in the all the way up position they are no lower than your transom edge if you were to run a straight edge aft’ otherwise you would be running “hook” from the get go. Twin rams would be preferred for the longer chord length. This, and I’m not so sure the extra chord length increases drag, it also increases planning surface and lift if not recessed into the hull.
Our fishing seasons in Hatteras are very dynamic and seem to change a little year to year. Of course weather is the big factor that controls the day-to-day changes.
Hatteras Off the beaten path, the Outer Banks’ best known fishing village has an allure unlike any other. It might be possible to somehow arrive in Hatteras without planning by boat, but you would have to come by the ocean. Few people would be lucky enough to cross the Pamlico Sound successfully by accident. Many fishermen have enough difficulty doing it with the latest in marine electronics. However, Hatteras is one of those places that forges a grip on your mind and heart and draws you there.
It is both the curse of the siren and the blessing of Poseidon. Once a dedicated fisherman is introduced to the exceptional fishing at Hatteras, it becomes a part of him and draws him back. Most fishermen first think of Hatteras as a destination for fishing offshore, and it is superlative in that manner. However, for those fishermen willing to shine their lower units and props on sandbars while learning their way around the inshore waters between Hatteras Island and the shoals and reefs that separate it from Pamlico Sound, there are numerous opportunities to catch limits of large inshore fish.
The road to Hatteras is simple. Get to Nags Head, and then go approximately 60 miles south on NC Land is precious in Hatteras village, which makes for only a couple of launching ramps.

Related “Doormat” summer flounder topping 10 pounds invade New Jersey’s back bays and nearshore waters ever year and are a blast to catch on light tackle. Strip baits cut from a flounder, salmon or albacore belly, bluefish or sea robin entice big fluke when deployed on a tandem, sliding snell rig. Use a dropper loop when rigging bucktails to add a secondary teaser for some extra flash. You might even score the elusive double hook-up! Doctor up the bucktails with fresh strip baits and soft plastic or Gulp!
When the bite turns on and the action gets hot and heavy, you can fill a fish box with tasty fillets in no time. Every summer and into fall, New Jersey’s summer flounder lay out the welcome mat or ‘doormat’ as anglers here call the big fluke that surpass the pound mark. Any flatfish over five pounds is a solid catch in anyone’s book, but there are a few tricks you can employ to help you key in on these large-model flatties. If you’re fishing a slack tide, hook larger baits through the back dorsal fin for a more natural presentation.
After the initial bump when a fluke pounces on a bait, count to five, lock the reel and begin reeling to set the hook. Conventional reels are preferred when live-baiting as line can be fed back to the fish smoothly and with minimal resistance, then engaged quickly for the hook-set. Live-baiting is applicable across most saltwater arenas including shallow areas of back bays in depths of 5 to 20 feet, deep bay channels of 70 feet or more, and oceanside drifting over humps and ledges.
Long, undulating 8- to inch long strip baits cut from a flounder, salmon or albacore belly, bluefish, or sea robin work best. Cut the fillets into one-half to 1-inch wide strips and taper them off at both ends so the strip runs through the water straight and doesn’t spin.
